"Do a Dear"
The song is spelled Do becuase it's the musical note, but it's pronounced like Doe. If you don't get that, this whole post will make NO sense to you. :-)
"Sing Do a Dear MaMa" Those words are heard in my house at least 2 times every day...primarily at bedtime. I guess it all started when they were infants - probably 2-3 months old. ABC Family (or one of those networks that will premier a movie three nights in a row) was showing the Sound of Music. I like that movie...I wouldn't say it's on my top 10, but I wouldn't turn the channel off if I saw it. Anyway, it was on the same time all three nights, so I would turn it on in our bedroom to watch in the background during our bed/bath routine. And every night (since we were...and still are...pretty scheduled), it would seem that the part of the movie where they sing Do a Dear was coming on as they were getting out of the tub. So, I would sing along with the TV and they would smile while we got their PJs on. I kept singing it for a few weeks/month after that during the bedtime routine and they would continue to smile.
Then, I gave it up for a long time. Too long of a song I guess. But there was one night a year ago or so that they were particularly fussy. We were trying anything to get them to sleep. I thought, hey, maybe they'll dig deep into their memories and remember how calming this song was when they were really little. So, I sang it, and they loved it. And that's all she wrote...we've been singing it ever since.
And it is a LONG song, but my girls know EVERY word. I think that's pretty cool. Could be perfectly normal for a toddler to know a complicated song that long, who knows? As the proud parent, again, I think it's pretty cool. Apparently, they busted out the lyrics at art class one day, and my nanny said there were some pretty puzzled/impressed looks on the faces of the art teacher and other moms. :-)
Anyway, the Sound of Music was on again over Christmas time this year, and I don't know that Kaitlyn and Nicole have seen Julie Andrews sing it since the time when they were 2-3 months old. So, I recorded it and showed them that part of the movie. They were singing along and having a blast (as was I...the proud MaMa). So, we got out the video camera. Thanks again Santa for the Flip. Makes for great blog posts.
Whoops...the video exceeds the maximim MB for the blog. I found a 'go around' so hopefully this will still work. Enjoy. And sorry it's so long...it's the whole bit from the movie which is probably why the file is so large.
And after watching the video myself, it wouldn't appear that they know "all" of the words, but the song in the movie is faster paced than we sing at home. When we go slower, they know it.

Couldn't Resist - Another Video
Mike got a Flip video camera for Christmas and it's WAY easy to put a video on to the computer. So, hopefully going forward, you'll see a lot more videos too. Here's another Alabama cheerleader video. I have a few Christmas morning videos that I'll share in a future post too.
My First Video - Roll Tide
Mike (despite not going to the university) was raised an Alabama fan. So, we own Alabama cheerleader outfits...don't worry Dawgs, we have UGA cheerleader outfits too. On Thursday for the National Championship Game, I had the girls dressed in their Alabama outfits when Mike came home. We were practicing our "Roll Tide" for daddy before he got home, and I decided to grab the video camera because it was just so cute.

Posting a Video for the First Time....if it works????
Ok, can't even find the icon that allows me to insert video, so I guess this is a project for another time. Bummer.
Elizabeth, if you're reading this, HELP....I thought there was supposed to be a filmstrip icon. What happened to it?
